This weekend, Toronto residents can expect some major traffic and transit disruptions due to the closure of the Gardiner Expressway and planned TTC maintenance work.
The Gardiner Expressway will be closed in both directions from Carlaw Avenue to Highway 427 starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, December 10th until 5 a.m. on Monday, December 13th. This closure is necessary for the City of Toronto to complete important maintenance work, including bridge repairs and resurfacing.
As a result of the Gardiner closure, drivers are advised to use alternate routes and plan for extra travel time. The City of Toronto has provided a map of suggested detours, which can be found on their website.
In addition to the Gardiner closure, the TTC will also be conducting maintenance work on Line 1 between St. Clair West and Union stations. This work will take place from 11 p.m. on Friday, December 10th until 11 p.m. on Sunday, December 12th. During this time, shuttle buses will be running between the affected stations.
TTC riders are advised to plan for longer travel times and to consider using alternate forms of transportation if possible. The TTC has also provided a map of the shuttle bus route on their website.
These disruptions may cause inconvenience for commuters, but they are necessary for the safety and maintenance of our city’s infrastructure. The City of Toronto and the TTC apologize for any inconvenience and thank residents for their understanding and cooperation.
