Thornhill Lawyer Accused of Stealing Home Sale Proceeds

A Thornhill lawyer is currently wanted by authorities for allegedly stealing over $1 million in home sale proceeds from his clients.

According to York Regional Police, the lawyer, identified as 49-year-old David S. Feld, was representing a couple in the sale of their home in 2018. The couple had agreed to sell their home for $1.3 million and had entrusted Feld with the proceeds from the sale.

However, after the sale was finalized, the couple discovered that Feld had not transferred the full amount to them. Instead, he had allegedly kept over $1 million for himself.

The couple immediately reported the incident to the police, who launched an investigation into Feld’s actions. It was discovered that he had used the stolen funds to pay off his own personal debts and expenses.

Feld has since been charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. He is currently wanted by police and is believed to have fled the country.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on Feld’s whereabouts to come forward and contact the York Regional Police Financial Crimes Unit.

This is not the first time Feld has faced legal troubles. In 2019, he was suspended by the Law Society of Ontario for professional misconduct and misappropriation of client funds.

The Law Society has also launched an investigation into Feld’s actions in this latest case and has frozen his trust account.

Police are reminding the public to always do their due diligence when hiring a lawyer and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone who may have been a victim of Feld’s alleged actions to come forward and contact the York Regional Police Financial Crimes Unit.

This case serves as a reminder to always be cautious and vigilant when dealing with financial matters and to seek legal advice from reputable and trustworthy sources.
