An Ontario man is facing charges after allegedly fabricating a story about his vehicle being stolen following a crash in a field.
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the town of Innisfil, located north of Toronto. The man, whose identity has not been released, called 911 to report that his vehicle had been stolen after he crashed it in a field.
However, upon further investigation, police discovered that the man had actually crashed his vehicle himself and then made up the story about it being stolen. The vehicle was found abandoned in the field with significant damage.
The man has been charged with public mischief and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
This incident serves as a reminder to always be truthful when reporting a crime. Falsely reporting a crime not only wastes valuable police resources, but it also undermines the credibility of legitimate victims and their stories.
Police are urging the public to think twice before making false reports and to always be honest when seeking assistance.
