The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is closely monitoring a gas well fire that broke out north of Cochrane, Alberta on Monday afternoon.
According to the AER, the fire was reported at around 2:30 p.m. in the area of Township Road 284 and Range Road 43, approximately 10 kilometres north of Cochrane.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the AER says that the well is owned by Calgary-based oil and gas company, Obsidian Energy.
In a statement, the AER said that they have dispatched an inspector to the site and are working closely with Obsidian Energy to assess the situation and determine the next steps.
The AER also stated that they are in contact with local authorities and have notified nearby landowners of the incident.
As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or damage to surrounding properties.
