Man charged in alleged sexual assault of girl in Fish Creek Park

A man has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in Fish Creek Park, according to Calgary police.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 27, 2021, when the girl was walking in the park with her family. The suspect, who is known to the victim, allegedly approached her and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene.

After an investigation by the Calgary Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit, 35-year-old John Smith was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference with a child under the age of 16.

Police are urging anyone with information about this incident or any other similar incidents involving the suspect to come forward.

“This is a disturbing and concerning incident, and we want to ensure the safety of our community,” said Staff Sergeant Jane Doe of the Calgary Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit. “We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information to please contact us.”
