Airdrie mother desperately needs funds for life-saving cancer treatment

A mother in Airdrie, Alberta is facing a desperate situation as she fights for her life against cancer. 36-year-old Sarah Thompson has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and is in urgent need of funds to cover the cost of life-saving treatment.

Thompson, a single mother of two young children, was first diagnosed with cancer in 2019. After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, she was declared cancer-free in January 2020. However, just a few months later, she received the devastating news that the cancer had returned and spread to her liver and lungs.

With limited treatment options available in Canada, Thompson’s doctors have recommended a specialized treatment in the United States that could potentially save her life. However, the treatment comes with a hefty price tag of $200,000.

Thompson’s family and friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise the necessary funds for her treatment. So far, they have raised over $50,000, but time is running out as Thompson’s health continues to deteriorate.

In an emotional plea, Thompson’s sister, Jennifer, shared, “Sarah is a fighter and has been through so much already. She deserves a chance to beat this and be there for her children. We are asking for any help, big or small, to give her that chance.”

Thompson’s story has touched the hearts of many in the community, with donations pouring in and messages of support flooding social media. Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown has also shown his support, stating, “We are a community that comes together in times of need, and I have no doubt that we will rally behind Sarah and her family.”

Thompson’s family is grateful for the outpouring of support but knows that time is of the essence. They are urging anyone who is able to donate to the campaign and help give Thompson a fighting chance.

As Thompson continues to fight for her life, her family remains hopeful that they will be able to raise the necessary funds and bring her one step closer to beating cancer once and for all.
