South Vancouver house fire closes section of Marine Drive

A house fire in South Vancouver has resulted in the closure of a section of Marine Drive on Monday evening.

According to the Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, the fire broke out at a single-family home on Marine Drive near Kerr Street around 6:30 p.m. Multiple 911 calls were made reporting the blaze, and firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. They quickly worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes. The fire was declared under control just before 7:30 p.m.

Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries. However, the house sustained significant damage, and the residents will not be able to return until repairs are made.

As a precaution, a section of Marine Drive between Kerr Street and Granville Street was closed to traffic while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. The road closure caused some traffic delays in the area, and drivers were advised to find alternate routes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the estimated cost of damages is yet to be determined. The Vancouver Fire Rescue Services is reminding residents to always have working smoke alarms in their homes and to have a fire escape plan in place.

We will continue to provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
