The Winnipeg Jets have revealed a new logo in honor of their first Ukrainian Heritage Night. The logo, which features a Ukrainian trident and the team’s signature jet, was unveiled during a special pre-game ceremony on Saturday.
The Ukrainian Heritage Night was organized in partnership with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business Association of Winnipeg. The event aimed to celebrate the contributions of the Ukrainian community to the city of Winnipeg and the sport of hockey.
During the pre-game ceremony, members of the Ukrainian community were invited to participate in a traditional Ukrainian dance performance on the ice. The team also wore special jerseys with the new logo, which will be auctioned off to raise funds for local Ukrainian organizations.
Jets’ Executive Chairman Mark Chipman expressed his excitement for the event, stating, “We are proud to celebrate the rich Ukrainian heritage in our city and to honor the Ukrainian community’s passion for hockey.”
The Ukrainian Heritage Night also featured a special guest appearance by former NHL player and Ukrainian-Canadian, Orest Kindrachuk. Kindrachuk, who played for the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins, shared his experiences growing up in a Ukrainian household and how it influenced his love for the game of hockey.
The Ukrainian community in Winnipeg has a long history with the sport of hockey, with many players of Ukrainian descent making their mark in the NHL. This event not only celebrates their contributions but also serves as a reminder of the strong cultural ties between the Ukrainian community and the city of Winnipeg.
The Jets’ new logo will be featured on the team’s jerseys for the remainder of the season and will also be incorporated into the team’s merchandise. The organization hopes that the logo will serve as a symbol of unity and pride for both the Ukrainian community and Jets fans alike.
The Ukrainian Heritage Night was a success, with fans and players alike embracing the new logo and the celebration of Ukrainian culture. The Winnipeg Jets have once again shown their commitment to honoring the diverse communities that make up their fan base.
