Montreal police are issuing a warning to teenagers in the city about the potential dangers of urban exploration. This comes after a recent increase in the number of young people participating in this activity, which involves exploring abandoned or off-limits buildings and structures.

Sergeant Jean-Pierre Leclerc of the Montreal Police Service stated, “We understand that teenagers are naturally curious and may be drawn to the excitement of urban exploration. However, we want to remind them that these abandoned buildings are not safe and can pose serious hazards such as unstable structures, hazardous materials, and the risk of encountering squatters or criminals.”
In addition to physical dangers, urban exploration can also have legal consequences. Trespassing on private property is a criminal offense and can result in fines or even jail time. The police are also concerned about the potential for vandalism and theft that may occur during these explorations.
Authorities are also reminding teenagers that posting photos or videos of their urban exploration adventures on social media can attract unwanted attention and may even encourage others to participate in this dangerous activity.
