At the age of 63, Canadian rodeo legend, Wayne Vold, is gearing up for another shot at the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) championship title. Despite his age, Vold is determined to prove that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level.
Vold, who hails from Ponoka, Alberta, has been competing in rodeos for over four decades and has won the CFR championship once before in 1984. Now, 37 years later, he is back in the finals and ready to give it his all.
When asked about his motivation to continue competing at his age, Vold credits his love for the sport and the support of his family. He also acknowledges that his age has brought its own set of challenges, but he sees it as an opportunity to push himself even harder.
“They make me dig deep,” Vold says of his younger competitors. “I have to work harder and be smarter to keep up with them.”
Vold’s determination and hard work have paid off, as he has qualified for the CFR finals in the bareback riding event. He will be competing against some of the best rodeo athletes in the country, including his own son, Jake Vold, who is also a CFR champion.
Despite the tough competition, Vold remains confident and focused on his goal of winning another championship title. He knows that it won’t be easy, but he is ready for the challenge.
“I’m just going to go out there and do my best,” Vold says. “I know I can still compete with these guys.”
The CFR finals will take place on Saturday, November 13th, at the Edmonton Expo Centre. Fans and fellow competitors alike will be watching closely to see if Vold can add another championship title to his impressive resume.
At 63 years old, Vold’s passion and determination for rodeo continue to inspire and impress. He is a true testament to the saying, “age is just a number.”
