'You will see a significant and visible police presence': VPD planning for protests for Oct. 7

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is preparing for potential protests on October 7, with a promise of a “significant and visible” police presence.

According to VPD spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin, the department is aware of several planned demonstrations and is taking necessary precautions to ensure public safety.

“We are expecting a large turnout and we want to make sure that everyone is able to exercise their right to peaceful protest while also maintaining public order,” Visintin said.

The VPD has been in communication with protest organizers to gather information and coordinate plans. They have also been working closely with other law enforcement agencies to ensure a coordinated response.

“We have been monitoring social media and other sources to gather intelligence and prepare for any potential disruptions,” Visintin added.

The VPD has not disclosed the specific locations of the planned protests, but they have assured the public that they will be ready to respond and maintain order.

“We want to assure the public that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of everyone involved,” Visintin said.

The department has also reminded the public to follow all COVID-19 safety protocols, including wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing, during any potential protests.

“We understand that people may have strong opinions and want to express them, but we ask that they do so in a peaceful and respectful manner,” Visintin stated.

The VPD has a history of successfully managing large-scale protests and is confident in their ability to do so again on October 7.

“We have a well-trained and experienced team that is prepared to handle any situation that may arise,” Visintin assured.

The department has also urged the public to report any suspicious or concerning behavior to the police.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of our community and we will continue to monitor the situation closely,” Visintin concluded.
