Montreal Opposition Party Demands Public Inquiry into Fatal Fire
The Montreal Opposition Party is calling for a public inquiry into a deadly fire that claimed the lives of three people in the city’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.
The fire broke out in a residential building on Parc Avenue early Sunday morning, leaving three people dead and several others injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
In a statement released on Monday, the Montreal Opposition Party expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
“The loss of life in this tragic fire is devastating and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims,” the statement read.
The party also raised concerns about the safety of the building, citing reports of previous fire code violations and lack of proper maintenance.
“We cannot ignore the fact that this building has a history of fire code violations and it is our duty to ensure the safety of all residents in our city,” the statement continued.
The Montreal Opposition Party is urging the city to launch a public inquiry into the fire, in order to determine the cause and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
“We need to understand what went wrong and how we can prevent such a tragedy from happening again. A public inquiry will provide the necessary transparency and accountability to ensure justice for the victims and their families,” the statement concluded.
The call for a public inquiry has been supported by other political parties and community organizations, who are also demanding answers and accountability for the deadly fire.
The city of Montreal has yet to respond to the request for a public inquiry. However, Mayor Valérie Plante has promised a thorough investigation into the incident and has expressed her condolences to the families of the victims.
As the investigation continues, the Montreal Opposition Party and other concerned parties are determined to seek justice and ensure the safety of all residents in the city.
