Hundreds of British Columbia residents received incorrect voter information cards, according to Elections BC.
The cards, which were sent out ahead of the upcoming provincial election, contained the wrong address for where to vote.
Elections BC spokesperson Andrew Watson confirmed that the mistake affected approximately 1,000 voters in the province.
“We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused,” Watson said in a statement.
The error was reportedly caused by a technical issue with the printing process. The correct address for voting was listed on the cards, but the accompanying map showed the wrong location.
Elections BC has since corrected the issue and is working to ensure that all affected voters receive updated information.
“We have taken immediate steps to address this issue and are working to ensure that all voters have the correct information,” Watson said.
The incorrect cards were sent to voters in various ridings across the province, including Vancouver-False Creek, Vancouver-Point Grey, and Vancouver-Quilchena.
Elections BC is urging anyone who received an incorrect card to check their voting information online or contact their local Elections BC office for assistance.
The provincial election is set to take place on October 24, and advance voting begins on October 15. Eligible voters can also request a mail-in ballot if they are unable to vote in person.
This mistake serves as a reminder for voters to double-check their information and ensure they have the correct location for voting. Elections BC is committed to ensuring a fair and accurate election process for all British Columbians.
