The North Bay Battalion put up a strong performance on the shot clock, but ultimately fell to the Niagara IceDogs in a close game on Friday night.
Despite dominating in shots on goal, with a final count of 41-25 in their favor, the Battalion were unable to secure a win against the IceDogs. The game ended with a final score of 3-2 in favor of Niagara.
The first period saw the Battalion take an early lead, with Brandon Coe scoring the first goal of the game just over five minutes in. However, the IceDogs quickly responded with two goals of their own, taking the lead by the end of the period.
In the second period, the Battalion continued to outshoot the IceDogs, but were unable to find the back of the net. It wasn’t until the third period that they were able to tie the game, with Luke Moncada scoring his 20th goal of the season.
But the IceDogs were determined to come out on top, and with just over five minutes left in the game, they scored the game-winning goal, securing their victory over the Battalion.
Despite the loss, the Battalion can take pride in their strong performance on the shot clock, as well as their overall effort on the ice. Head coach Ryan Oulahen praised his team’s effort, stating, “We played a good game, we just didn’t get the result we wanted.”
The Battalion will have a chance to redeem themselves on Sunday when they face off against the Sudbury Wolves. With a record of 24-23-1-0, the Battalion are currently in fourth place in the Central Division of the Ontario Hockey League.
