Marner, Maple Leafs top Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 in Toronto's home opener

The Toronto Maple Leafs kicked off their home opener with a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena.

The Leafs’ star player, Mitch Marner, led the way with a goal and two assists, solidifying his position as one of the top players in the league.

The game started off with a bang as the Leafs’ John Tavares scored just 1:54 into the first period, giving the home team an early lead. However, the Penguins quickly responded with two goals of their own, putting the Leafs on their heels.

But the Leafs didn’t back down. Marner tied the game with a power-play goal in the second period, and then assisted on goals by Auston Matthews and William Nylander in the third period, securing the win for the Leafs.

The Leafs’ defense also played a crucial role in the victory, shutting down the Penguins’ high-powered offense and limiting them to just 22 shots on goal.

This win marks the Leafs’ second victory in a row, following their 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. It also puts them at the top of the Atlantic Division with a record of 2-1-0.

The Leafs will look to continue their winning streak as they face off against the Ottawa Senators on Monday night at Scotiabank Arena.
