Police and first responders at Wabamun Lake for to capsized boat: RCMP

Police and first responders rushed to Wabamun Lake on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of a capsized boat, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near the boat launch at the provincial park. Witnesses reported seeing a small boat with two people on board flip over, causing both individuals to fall into the water.

RCMP, along with local fire and rescue teams, immediately responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found that one of the individuals had managed to swim to shore, while the other was still in the water.

First responders quickly retrieved the second person from the lake and brought them to shore. Both individuals were assessed by paramedics and did not require further medical attention.

According to RCMP, the two individuals were not wearing life jackets at the time of the incident. They were both experienced boaters and were able to swim to safety.

The cause of the boat capsizing is still under investigation, but RCMP reminds boaters to always wear a life jacket and to be aware of weather conditions and water conditions before heading out on the lake.

Wabamun Lake is a popular spot for boating and other water activities, and RCMP urges all individuals to prioritize safety while enjoying the lake.

This is a developing story and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
