The Saskatchewan Party has officially revealed their campaign platform for the upcoming provincial election.
At a press conference on Monday, Premier Scott Moe and his team outlined their plans for the province if re-elected.
One of the main focuses of the platform is economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The party promises to create 100,000 new jobs and invest $2 billion in infrastructure projects to stimulate the economy.
In terms of healthcare, the Saskatchewan Party pledges to hire 300 new doctors and 1,000 new nurses, as well as invest $300 million in mental health and addictions services.
The party also promises to continue investing in education, with a plan to build 20 new schools and hire 1,000 new teachers.
On the topic of the environment, the Saskatchewan Party plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 and invest in renewable energy projects.
In addition, the party promises to keep taxes low and balance the budget by 2024.
Premier Moe emphasized the importance of a strong economy and responsible fiscal management in his speech, stating, “We need to keep Saskatchewan moving forward, not backwards.”
The Saskatchewan Party’s platform has been met with both support and criticism. Opposition leader Ryan Meili of the NDP has criticized the party’s lack of focus on social issues and their plan to cut funding for post-secondary education.
The provincial election will take place on October 26th, and voters will have the opportunity to decide if they want to see the Saskatchewan Party’s platform put into action.
