A serious car accident on Macleod Trail has left one person hospitalized.
According to authorities, the crash occurred on Macleod Trail near 162 Avenue SW on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, they found a vehicle that had collided with a pole. The driver of the vehicle was the only occupant and was trapped inside. Firefighters had to use specialized equipment to extricate the driver from the vehicle.
The driver was then transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. However, police have confirmed that speed was a factor in the accident.
The southbound lanes of Macleod Trail were closed for several hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash. The lanes have since been reopened.
