A luxurious Airbnb in Bowmanville, Ontario was the target of a brazen robbery, resulting in the theft of approximately $250,000 worth of jewelry. The incident has left the community in shock and four suspects facing charges, according to police.
The robbery took place on December 19th at a rental property on Concession Road 3. The homeowners, who were not present at the time, had rented out their home for the weekend. When they returned, they discovered that their jewelry, including valuable watches and rings, had been stolen.
Durham Regional Police were immediately notified and launched an investigation. Through their diligent efforts, four suspects were identified and charged in connection with the robbery. The suspects, all from the Greater Toronto Area, are facing charges of break and enter, theft over $5,000, and possession of stolen property.
The investigation also led to the recovery of a significant amount of the stolen jewelry, which has since been returned to the homeowners. However, police are still searching for the remaining items and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
This incident serves as a reminder for homeowners to take precautions when renting out their properties on short-term rental platforms. Police recommend that homeowners thoroughly screen potential renters and consider installing security cameras to deter criminal activity.
The Durham Regional Police would like to thank the community for their assistance in this investigation and urge anyone with information to contact them. The four suspects are scheduled to appear in court on January 25th, 2022.
