A tragic accident has claimed the life of one person after a head-on collision between a semi-truck and an SUV north of Edmonton.
According to authorities, the collision occurred on Highway 28 near Township Road 572 around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The semi-truck was traveling southbound while the SUV was heading northbound when they collided.
The driver of the SUV, a 35-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck, a 52-year-old man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the collision. It has since been reopened.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
