A Markham man is facing serious charges after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman less than two weeks after being released on bail.
According to police, the incident occurred on December 19th, just 12 days after the accused was released on bail for a previous sexual assault charge. The victim, a woman in her 20s, reported the assault to police and the accused was arrested on December 21st.
The accused, whose name has not been released to protect the identity of the victim, is facing charges of sexual assault and breach of recognizance. He appeared in court on December 22nd and was remanded into custody.
This is not the first time the accused has been charged with sexual assault. In November, he was arrested and charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement in connection with an incident that occurred in October. He was released on bail on December 7th.
Police are urging anyone with information about the accused or any other potential victims to come forward. They are also reminding the public that bail is not a guarantee of innocence and that individuals who are released on bail are expected to adhere to strict conditions.
