A man has been arrested in connection with a series of assaults that occurred in downtown Montreal.
According to police, the suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody on Tuesday evening. The arrest comes after a string of violent incidents that took place in the downtown area over the past few days.
The first reported assault occurred on Sunday afternoon, when a woman was attacked and robbed near the intersection of Sainte-Catherine and Peel streets. The victim sustained minor injuries and was able to provide a description of the suspect to authorities.
Two more assaults were reported on Monday, both involving female victims who were walking alone in the downtown area. In both cases, the victims were approached from behind and physically assaulted before the suspect fled the scene.
Police were able to identify the suspect through surveillance footage and witness descriptions. He was located and arrested on Tuesday evening without incident.
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including assault, robbery, and possession of stolen property. Police are also investigating whether he may be connected to other similar incidents in the area.
Authorities are reminding the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. They are also urging anyone who may have been a victim of a similar assault to come forward and speak to investigators.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Montreal Police Service. The suspect is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
