Manitoba premier says he will look at revealing more travel expenses

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister has announced that he will consider disclosing more of his travel expenses in response to public scrutiny.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Pallister stated that he understands the public’s concern over his travel expenses and is willing to review the current disclosure process.

“I recognize that there has been some public concern over my travel expenses and I am committed to addressing those concerns,” said Pallister.

The premier’s statement comes after a recent report revealed that he had spent over $200,000 on out-of-province travel in 2020, including a trip to Costa Rica during the holiday season.

Pallister defended his trip, stating that it was for personal reasons and that he followed all public health guidelines.

However, the revelation sparked criticism from opposition parties and the public, with many calling for more transparency in the premier’s travel expenses.

In response, Pallister has promised to review the current disclosure process and consider revealing more of his travel expenses in the future.

“I will be looking at ways to improve the transparency of my travel expenses and will consider disclosing more information moving forward,” he stated.

The premier also emphasized that he takes his role as a public servant seriously and is committed to being accountable to the people of Manitoba.

“I understand that as a public servant, I have a responsibility to be transparent and accountable to the people of Manitoba. I will continue to work towards meeting those expectations,” said Pallister.

The premier’s office has not yet provided details on what changes may be made to the current disclosure process, but Pallister has assured that he will keep the public informed.

“I will provide updates as we move forward with this review and make any necessary changes to ensure transparency and accountability,” he concluded.
