At 87 years old, most people are enjoying their retirement and reflecting on their accomplishments. But for one Ontario woman, age is just a number. Meet Maria Korsunsky, the inspiring woman who recently graduated from York University.
Korsunsky’s journey to obtaining her degree was not an easy one. She immigrated to Canada from Ukraine in 1995 and worked as a nurse for many years. However, she always had a passion for learning and decided to pursue a degree in psychology at York University.
Despite facing challenges such as language barriers and health issues, Korsunsky persevered and completed her degree in four years. She credits her determination and support from her family and professors for her success.
“I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity to continue learning and growing at my age,” Korsunsky said in an interview with CTV News. “It was not easy, but I am proud of myself for never giving up.”
Korsunsky’s story has inspired many, including her fellow classmates and professors. Dr. Sarah Switzer, one of Korsunsky’s professors, described her as a “remarkable student” who brought a unique perspective to the classroom.
“Maria’s life experience and wisdom added so much to our discussions and enriched the learning experience for everyone,” Dr. Switzer said.
Korsunsky’s graduation ceremony was a special moment for her and her family. She proudly walked across the stage to receive her degree, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
“I hope my story can inspire others to never stop learning and pursuing their dreams, no matter their age,” Korsunsky said.
Korsunsky’s determination and resilience serve as a reminder that it is never too late to achieve your goals. Her story is a testament to the power of education and the human spirit. Congratulations to Maria Korsunsky on her well-deserved graduation from York University.
