Man, woman charged in extortion cases targeting Montreal restaurants

A man and a woman have been charged in connection with a series of extortion cases targeting restaurants in Montreal.

According to police, the suspects, 32-year-old John Smith and 28-year-old Jane Doe, allegedly approached several restaurants in the city and demanded money in exchange for not causing harm to their businesses.

The investigation began in October when a restaurant owner reported receiving threatening messages and demands for money. The suspects allegedly used various methods, including phone calls and social media, to intimidate and extort money from their victims.

Police say that Smith and Doe were arrested on December 15 and charged with extortion, conspiracy, and possession of stolen property. They are currently being held in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on January 5.

Authorities are urging any other potential victims to come forward and report any similar incidents. They also advise business owners to be cautious and report any suspicious activity to the police.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and taking necessary precautions to protect oneself and one’s business from potential threats. The Montreal Police Service is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will continue to investigate and prosecute any criminal activity.
