Major building fire in Ahuntsic-Cartierville

A major building fire broke out in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville neighborhood of Montreal on Tuesday evening, causing significant damage and displacing several residents.

According to the Montreal Fire Department, the fire started around 6:30 p.m. in a commercial building on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard West. The building, which housed several businesses and apartments, quickly became engulfed in flames.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes and immediately began battling the blaze. However, strong winds and the building’s old construction made it difficult for them to contain the fire.

As a precaution, nearby buildings were evacuated and a section of Henri-Bourassa Boulevard West was closed to traffic. The fire department also issued a warning for residents to avoid the area.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far. However, several residents have been left without a place to stay as their apartments were destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but authorities believe it may have started in one of the businesses on the ground floor. The building did not have a sprinkler system, which may have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

The Montreal Fire Department was able to bring the fire under control after several hours of intense work. However, the building sustained significant damage and is considered a total loss.

The Red Cross has been called in to assist the displaced residents and provide them with temporary shelter. The city’s emergency response team is also working to support those affected by the fire.

As of now, the area remains closed off as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the damage. Residents are advised to avoid the area and to follow any instructions given by emergency personnel.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures, such as sprinkler systems, in buildings. It also highlights the bravery and dedication of our firefighters who risk their lives to protect our community.

We will continue to provide updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
