Los Angeles Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis expressed their joy and admiration for Toronto Raptors legend Vince Carter as he is set to be honored by the team on Sunday.
In an interview with CTV News, James and Davis both spoke highly of Carter and his impact on the game of basketball.
“Vince is a legend, man. He’s done so much for the game and for the city of Toronto,” James said. “It’s great to see him being recognized and honored by the Raptors organization.”
Carter, who played for the Raptors from 1998 to 2004, was a fan favorite and helped put Toronto on the map as a basketball city. He was also a key player in the team’s first playoff appearance in 2000.
Davis echoed James’ sentiments, saying, “Vince is a true pioneer and trailblazer for the game. He paved the way for so many players, including myself, and it’s an honor to see him being celebrated by the Raptors.”
Carter, who is now retired, will have his jersey retired by the Raptors during a ceremony at halftime of their game against the Atlanta Hawks. He will also be inducted into the team’s “Ring of Honor.”
Both James and Davis have had memorable moments with Carter on the court, and they both expressed their gratitude for being able to play against him.
“Vince was always a tough opponent, but it was always a pleasure to compete against him,” James said. “He’s a true competitor and a class act.”
Davis added, “Playing against Vince was always a challenge, but it was also a learning experience. He’s a legend and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to play against him.”
Carter’s impact on the game of basketball and the city of Toronto is undeniable, and it’s clear that he has left a lasting impression on his fellow players. As he is honored by the Raptors, his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of fans and players alike.
