Six vehicles torched in suspected arson in TMR; Montreal police investigating

Real True News

Six vehicles were set ablaze in a suspected case of arson in the Town of Mount Royal (TMR) on Monday night, according to Montreal police.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Laird Boulevard near the intersection of Rockland Road. Witnesses reported seeing flames and thick smoke coming from the vehicles, which were parked in a residential area.

Police and firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and were able to extinguish the fires before they spread to nearby buildings. No injuries were reported.

Authorities believe the fires were intentionally set and are treating the incident as a case of arson. The exact cause of the fires is still under investigation.

According to TMR Mayor Philippe Roy, this is not the first time the town has experienced a string of vehicle fires. In 2019, a similar incident occurred in the same area, with several cars being set on fire.

“We are very concerned about this situation and we are working closely with the police to find those responsible,” said Roy in a statement.

Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area and are asking anyone with information to come forward. They are also reminding residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The TMR community is known for its low crime rate, making this incident particularly alarming for residents. Many are now questioning the safety of their neighborhood and are calling for increased security measures.

In the meantime, police are urging residents to take precautions, such as parking their vehicles in well-lit areas and keeping an eye out for any suspicious individuals.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Montreal police or Crime Stoppers.
