Renowned Canadian architect Arthur Erickson’s life and work will be celebrated at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) Centre from November 15 to 23. The retrospective event, titled “Arthur Erickson: An Architect’s Life,” will showcase the influential architect’s career and legacy through a series of films and discussions.
Erickson, who passed away in 2009, is known for his iconic designs that have shaped the landscape of Vancouver and beyond. His work includes the iconic Simon Fraser University campus, the Museum of Anthropology, and the Robson Square complex. He was also responsible for designing buildings in countries such as the United States, Japan, and the Middle East.
The VIFF Centre will screen four films that delve into Erickson’s life and work, providing a comprehensive look at his creative process and the impact he had on the architectural world. The films include “Arthur Erickson: The Architect and the City,” “The World of Arthur Erickson,” “The Erickson Project,” and “The Life and Times of Arthur Erickson.”
In addition to the film screenings, there will be panel discussions with experts and colleagues of Erickson, providing insights into his design philosophy and the challenges he faced throughout his career. The panelists include architectural historian Adele Weder, architect and former Erickson collaborator Nick Milkovich, and filmmaker David Paperny.
The event is a collaboration between the VIFF Centre and the Arthur Erickson Foundation, which aims to preserve and promote the legacy of the late architect.
