Ronald McDonald House Charities seeks more space for families across Canada

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is expanding its services to provide more space for families in need across Canada. This move comes as a response to the growing demand for accommodations for families with sick children who are receiving medical treatment far from home.

The charity, which has been providing support to families for over 40 years, announced that it will be adding 1,200 new rooms to its existing 365 rooms in 15 locations across the country. This will bring the total number of rooms to 1,565, making it the largest network of temporary housing for families in Canada.

According to RMHC, the need for more space has become increasingly evident in recent years. With advancements in medical technology, more children are able to receive specialized treatment at hospitals that are far from their homes. This often means that families have to travel long distances and stay for extended periods of time, putting a strain on their finances and emotional well-being.

The new rooms will be equipped with all the necessary amenities to make families feel at home during their stay. This includes private bedrooms, communal living spaces, and fully stocked kitchens. The charity also offers support services such as transportation to and from the hospital, meal programs, and recreational activities for families to enjoy together.

RMHC relies heavily on donations and fundraising efforts to provide these services to families at no cost. The expansion of their facilities will require an additional $190 million in funding, which the charity is confident it will be able to raise through the generosity of Canadians.

The impact of RMHC’s services on families is immeasurable. For many, having a comfortable and supportive place to stay during a difficult time can make all the difference. As one mother, whose son was receiving treatment for leukemia, shared, “The Ronald McDonald House gave us a home away from home and allowed us to focus on our son’s recovery without worrying about where we would stay.”

With the expansion of its services, RMHC is able to provide even more families with the support and comfort they need during a challenging time. This is a testament to the charity’s commitment to its mission of keeping families together and easing the burden of childhood illness.
