New York Police Seek Public’s Help in Search for Missing Montreal-Area Hiker in Adirondacks
The New York Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing hiker from the Montreal area who was last seen in the Adirondack Mountains.
According to authorities, 25-year-old Marie-Claude Gauthier was reported missing on December 28th after she failed to return from a solo hiking trip in the Adirondacks. Gauthier’s family became concerned when they did not hear from her and contacted the authorities.
Gauthier’s car was found parked at the Adirondack Loj trailhead, where she had planned to hike to Mount Marcy, the highest peak in New York State. However, she did not sign in at the trail register, and her whereabouts remain unknown.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Police have been conducting an extensive search for Gauthier, but have yet to find any sign of her. The search has been hampered by harsh weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and low visibility.
Authorities are now turning to the public for help in locating Gauthier. They are asking anyone who may have seen her or has any information about her whereabouts to come forward. Gauthier is described as 5’6″ tall, weighing approximately 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black winter jacket, black pants, and a red backpack.
The New York State Police have also released a photo of Gauthier in hopes that it will aid in the search efforts.
Gauthier’s family and friends are growing increasingly worried about her well-being and are pleading for anyone with information to come forward. They are also urging hikers in the Adirondacks to be cautious and to report any sightings of Gauthier to the authorities immediately.
Anyone with information about Gauthier’s whereabouts is asked to contact the New York State Police at (518) 897-2000. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the New York State Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-866-313-TIPS (8477).
The search for Marie-Claude Gauthier continues, and authorities are hopeful that with the public’s help, she will be found safe and sound.
