A suspect is wanted for attempted murder in connection to a shooting that occurred in East Gwillimbury, according to York Regional Police (YRP).
The incident took place on Monday, January 10, at around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Yonge Street and Green Lane. YRP responded to reports of gunshots and found a male victim with serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Michael James, is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as a white male, approximately 5’10” tall, with a medium build and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and black shoes.
YRP has issued a warrant for James’ arrest on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and discharging a firearm with intent. They are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact them immediately.
Investigators believe that James and the victim were known to each other and that this was not a random act of violence. They are also looking into the possibility of additional suspects being involved.
Residents in the area are advised to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to YRP. They are also reminded not to approach James if spotted, but to call 911 immediately.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact YRP at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7241 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.
