Montreal police have charged a man in connection with the brazen killing of a woman who was the daughter-in-law of a late mafia boss.
According to authorities, 40-year-old Jonathan Mignacca was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Jenique Dalcourt.
Dalcourt, who was married to the son of a notorious Montreal mafia boss, was found dead in her home on December 1, 2020. Police say she had been shot multiple times.
Mignacca, who has a criminal record and is known to police, was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in court on Thursday to face the murder charge.
The investigation into Dalcourt’s death was a joint effort between the Montreal police and the Sûreté du Québec, with assistance from the RCMP and other police forces.
Police have not released any information about a possible motive for the killing, but they have confirmed that Mignacca and Dalcourt knew each other.
Dalcourt’s husband, who is currently serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking, has not been charged in connection with her death.
