Man, 53, charged in connection with downtown Hamilton stabbing

A 53-year-old man has been charged in connection with a stabbing that occurred in downtown Hamilton, according to police.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening near the intersection of King Street East and John Street South. Police were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. and found a 35-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive, according to police.

After an investigation, police arrested a suspect on Wednesday. The 53-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police have not released the name of the suspect, but say he is known to the victim.

The motive for the stabbing is still under investigation, but police say it appears to be an isolated incident.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
