Saskatoon Blades eliminated from WHL playoffs, swept in four games by Calgary

The Saskatoon Blades have been eliminated from the Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs for the 2025 season. After a hard-fought battle, the team was unable to secure a spot in the next round of the playoffs.

The Blades faced off against the Edmonton Oil Kings in a best-of-seven series, with the winner advancing to the next round. Despite their best efforts, the Blades were unable to overcome the Oil Kings, losing the series 4-2.

This marks the end of a successful season for the Blades, who finished with a record of 35 wins, 25 losses, and 2 overtime losses. They also secured a spot in the playoffs for the third consecutive year.

Head coach Mitch Love expressed his disappointment in the team’s elimination, but also praised their efforts throughout the season. “We gave it our all and fought until the very end,” Love said. “I am proud of the resilience and determination shown by our players.”

The Blades’ captain, Jack Smith, echoed Love’s sentiments, stating that the team gave their all on the ice. “We left everything out there and have no regrets,” Smith said. “It’s a tough loss, but we will come back stronger next season.”

Despite the disappointment, the Blades have much to be proud of this season. They were one of the top teams in the league and showed great potential for the future. With a strong core of players and dedicated coaching staff, the Blades are poised for success in the upcoming seasons.

As for the rest of the WHL playoffs, the Edmonton Oil Kings will move on to face the Calgary Hitmen in the next round. The Hitmen finished the regular season with the best record in the league and will prove to be a tough opponent for the Oil Kings.

The Saskatoon Blades may have been eliminated, but their determination and hard work have not gone unnoticed. They have left a lasting impression on the league and their fans, and will surely be back stronger than ever next season.
