A Tilbury woman has been recognized for her tireless efforts in raising awareness for cystic fibrosis.
On Tuesday, Mary Smith was awarded the Coronation Medal by the Cystic Fibrosis Canada organization. The medal is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the cystic fibrosis community.
Smith, who has been living with cystic fibrosis for over 20 years, has been a vocal advocate for the disease. She has organized numerous fundraising events and has been a spokesperson for the Cystic Fibrosis Canada organization.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this medal,” Smith said. “Raising awareness for cystic fibrosis has been a passion of mine for many years, and I am grateful to be recognized for my efforts.”
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. It is estimated that one in every 3,600 children in Canada is born with the disease. There is currently no cure, and the average life expectancy for someone with cystic fibrosis is around 50 years old.
Smith’s dedication to raising awareness for cystic fibrosis has not gone unnoticed. She has been a driving force in organizing events such as the annual “Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History” and the “65 Roses Gala,” which raises funds for research and support programs for those living with the disease.
“Mary’s commitment to the cystic fibrosis community is truly inspiring,” said John Doe, CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. “Her efforts have made a significant impact in raising awareness and funds for this disease. We are grateful for her dedication and are proud to present her with the Coronation Medal.”
Smith hopes that receiving this medal will bring even more attention to cystic fibrosis and encourage others to get involved in the cause.
“I will continue to fight for a cure and raise awareness for cystic fibrosis,” Smith said. “I hope that this recognition will inspire others to join the fight and make a difference in the lives of those living with this disease.”
The Coronation Medal is a testament to Smith’s unwavering dedication and passion for raising awareness for cystic fibrosis. Her efforts have not only made a difference in the lives of those living with the disease, but also in the community as a whole.
