Finnish hockey player Rasmus Kupari has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets, leaving his team in Europe to join the NHL.
The 20-year-old center has been playing for the Finnish team Kärpät in the Liiga league, where he has recorded 15 points in 33 games this season. Kupari was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft, but was traded to the Jets in February 2021.
Kupari’s decision to join the Jets was influenced by the team’s strong track record of developing young players, as well as the opportunity to play alongside fellow Finnish players Patrik Laine and Ville Heinola.
In a statement released by the Jets, Kupari expressed his excitement to join the team and his determination to work hard and contribute to their success.

Kupari’s contract with the Jets will begin in the 2021-2022 season, and he is expected to join the team for training camp in September. He will also have the opportunity to play for the Jets’ AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, if needed.
