Kelowna’s popular Dirty Mutter event has been rescheduled from August to September in an effort to avoid the potential impact of wildfire smoke.
Organizers of the annual obstacle course race, which takes place at the Kelowna Springs Golf Club, made the decision to move the event after considering the potential health risks associated with the current wildfire season.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, there are currently over 200 active wildfires burning in the province, with many of them located in the southern interior region. This has resulted in poor air quality and a thick blanket of smoke covering the Okanagan Valley.
In a statement released by Dirty Mutter, organizers expressed their concern for the well-being of participants and staff, stating that “the safety and health of our community is our top priority.”
The event, which was originally scheduled for August 21, will now take place on September 18. All registered participants will automatically be transferred to the new date, and those unable to attend can request a refund.
This is not the first time the Dirty Mutter has been impacted by wildfire smoke. In 2018, the event was cancelled due to poor air quality caused by nearby wildfires.
The decision to reschedule the event has been met with mixed reactions from participants. While some have expressed disappointment, others have commended the organizers for prioritizing the safety of everyone involved.
With the current wildfire situation in British Columbia, it is important for event organizers to consider the potential risks and make necessary adjustments to ensure the safety of participants and staff. The rescheduling of the Dirty Mutter is a responsible and proactive decision that reflects the commitment of the organizers to the well-being of the community.
As the event approaches, organizers will continue to monitor the wildfire situation and provide updates as needed. For more information and updates on the Dirty Mutter, visit their website at www.dirtymutter.ca.
