Crews responding to wildfire near Hope find wanted man stranded on cliff

A man who was stranded on a cliff near Hope, British Columbia, has been rescued after being missing for several days.

According to the RCMP, the 35-year-old man was reported missing on Monday, July 12, after he failed to return from a hike in the area. A search and rescue operation was launched, but due to the rugged terrain and dangerous conditions, it was difficult to locate the man.

However, on Wednesday, July 14, a wildfire broke out in the area, adding to the challenges of the search. The fire, which has been named the “Hope Creek Fire,” quickly spread and forced the evacuation of nearby residents.

Despite the dangerous conditions, a team of search and rescue volunteers, along with the RCMP and BC Wildfire Service, continued their efforts to locate the missing man. After several hours of searching, they were able to locate him on a cliff, where he had become stranded.

The man, who has not been identified, was found to be in good health and was safely rescued from the cliff. He was then transported to a nearby hospital for a medical assessment.

The RCMP has confirmed that the man was not injured and is now reunited with his family. They have also expressed their gratitude to the search and rescue volunteers and other agencies involved in the successful rescue operation.

The cause of the wildfire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have been human-caused. The BC Wildfire Service is urging the public to be cautious and responsible when using fire in the outdoors, especially during the current hot and dry conditions.

As the wildfire continues to burn, residents in the area are being advised to stay vigilant and follow any evacuation orders or alerts issued by local authorities.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared and responsible when venturing into the outdoors. It also highlights the bravery and dedication of search and rescue volunteers who put their lives at risk to help those in need.
