An Ontario woman is speaking out after she says she was sold a crumbling house, despite having a home inspection done prior to purchase.
According to the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, she purchased the house in the small town of Smiths Falls, Ontario in October 2020. She claims that the home inspection report did not reveal any major issues with the property.
However, just a few months after moving in, the woman says she started noticing significant problems with the house. The foundation was crumbling, the roof was leaking, and there were numerous other structural issues.
The woman says she reached out to the home inspector, who told her that the issues were not present during the inspection and that they could not have predicted them. The inspector also allegedly told her that they were not liable for any of the damages.
The woman is now facing thousands of dollars in repairs and is unable to live in the house while they are being done. She says she feels deceived and is frustrated that the home inspection did not catch these issues.
In response to the situation, the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) released a statement saying that they are aware of the case and are investigating the matter. They also reminded home buyers to thoroughly research and choose a reputable home inspector before making a purchase.
The woman is now considering taking legal action against the home inspector and the seller of the property. She hopes that her story will serve as a warning to others to be cautious when purchasing a home and to thoroughly review all inspection reports.
This case highlights the importance of thorough and accurate home inspections, as well as the need for accountability in the home inspection industry. Home buyers should always do their due diligence and carefully review all inspection reports before making a purchase.
