Ontario aiming to send out $200 rebate cheques later this month or early February

Ontario is set to distribute 200 rebate cheques to eligible residents later this month or in early February, as part of the province’s efforts to provide financial relief during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the one-time payment of $200 per child under the age of 12 and $250 for those with special needs will be sent out to families who received the Canada Child Benefit in November 2021.

The rebate cheques are part of the Ontario government’s commitment to support families and individuals during these challenging times. The province has allocated $380 million for this initiative, which is expected to benefit over 1.3 million children across the province.

In order to receive the rebate, families must have filed their 2020 tax returns and be eligible for the Canada Child Benefit. The cheques will be automatically mailed to eligible families, so there is no need to apply.

Premier Doug Ford stated that the rebate cheques will provide much-needed financial relief for families who have been struggling due to the pandemic. He also encouraged eligible families to file their tax returns as soon as possible to ensure they receive the rebate.

The Ministry of Finance also reminded Ontarians that there are other financial supports available, such as the Ontario COVID-19 Child Benefit and the Ontario Guaranteed Annual Income System. These programs are designed to help families and individuals who have been impacted by the pandemic.

The province’s efforts to provide financial relief to its residents during these challenging times are commendable. As we continue to navigate through the pandemic, it is crucial that we support one another and work towards a brighter future for all.
