Poll shows BC Conservatives making inroads among federal Conservative voters

British Columbia Conservatives Gain Support from Federal Voters

The British Columbia Conservative Party has recently seen a surge in support from federal voters, according to a new poll.

The poll, conducted by Mainstreet Research for the National Post, found that 25% of federal voters in British Columbia would vote for the provincial Conservative Party if an election were held today. This is a significant increase from the 2017 provincial election, where the party only received 8% of the vote.

The poll also showed that the provincial Liberals, who currently hold power in British Columbia, would receive 35% of the vote from federal voters. This is a decrease from the 2017 election, where they received 40% of the vote.

The provincial New Democratic Party (NDP) also saw a decrease in support from federal voters, dropping from 41% in the 2017 election to 33% in the recent poll.

The Green Party, which currently holds three seats in the provincial legislature, saw a slight increase in support from federal voters, rising from 14% in the 2017 election to 16% in the poll.

The increase in support for the provincial Conservatives from federal voters can be attributed to a number of factors. One of the main reasons is the strong performance of the federal Conservative Party in British Columbia during the 2019 federal election. The party won 17 out of 42 seats in the province, the most of any party.

Another factor is the leadership of the provincial Conservative Party. Leader Trevor Bolin has been gaining popularity and has been actively campaigning in the province, which has helped to increase the party’s visibility and appeal to voters.

The poll also showed that the top issues for federal voters in British Columbia are the economy, healthcare, and the environment. This aligns with the priorities of the provincial Conservative Party, which has been focusing on economic recovery, healthcare reform, and responsible resource development.

The increase in support from federal voters is a positive sign for the provincial Conservative Party as they prepare for the next provincial election, which is scheduled for October 2024. It also highlights the potential for the party to gain more seats and potentially form government in the future.

The poll was conducted between April 19-20, 2021 and surveyed 1,000 federal voters in British Columbia. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

Overall, the increase in support for the provincial Conservative Party from federal voters is a significant development in British Columbia’s political landscape. It will be interesting to see how this support translates into votes in the next provincial election and if the party can continue to gain momentum.
