Wells hits two-run homer in ninth inning to lead Yankees over Blue Jays 2-0

In a thrilling game between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays, it was the Yankees who came out on top with a 2-0 victory. The game was tied at 0-0 heading into the ninth inning, but a two-run homer by Tyler Wells sealed the win for the Yankees.

The game started off as a pitcher’s duel, with both teams struggling to get any runs on the board. The Blue Jays’ starter, Hyun Jin Ryu, was dominant on the mound, allowing only three hits and striking out seven batters in seven innings. On the other side, Yankees’ ace Gerrit Cole was equally impressive, giving up just two hits and striking out nine in eight innings.

As the game entered the ninth inning, it seemed like it would be a low-scoring affair. However, the Yankees had other plans. With one out and a runner on first, Tyler Wells stepped up to the plate. He took a 1-1 pitch from Blue Jays’ reliever Jordan Romano and sent it flying over the left-field wall for a two-run homer, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Jays tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but the Yankees’ closer Aroldis Chapman shut them down, earning his 20th save of the season. The win improved the Yankees’ record to 54-48, while the Blue Jays fell to 51-49.

After the game, Wells spoke about his game-winning homer, saying, “I was just looking for a good pitch to hit and luckily I got one. It’s a great feeling to come through for my team in a big moment like that.”

Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone also praised Wells’ performance, saying, “He’s been swinging the bat well for us lately and it was great to see him come through in a clutch situation like that. He’s a big part of our team and we have a lot of confidence in him.”

The win was a much-needed one for the Yankees, who have been struggling in recent weeks. They have now won three of their last four games and will look to continue their momentum as they push for a playoff spot.

On the other hand, the loss was a tough one for the Blue Jays, who have been playing well as of late. They had won five of their last six games before facing the Yankees and will look to bounce back in their next game.

The two teams will face each other again tomorrow for the second game of their series. The Yankees will send Jameson Taillon to the mound, while the Blue Jays will counter with Alek Manoah. It promises to be another exciting game between these two division rivals.
