Can the Voodoos Defeat the Lumberjacks Once Again?
The Powassan Voodoos and the Hearst Lumberjacks are set to face off once again in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) playoffs. The two teams have a long-standing rivalry and have met in the playoffs for the past three years.
The Voodoos have had the upper hand in the past, defeating the Lumberjacks in the playoffs in both 2018 and 2019. However, the Lumberjacks were able to turn the tables last year, defeating the Voodoos in a thrilling seven-game series.
Now, the two teams are back at it again, with the Voodoos looking to reclaim their title as the top team in the NOJHL. The Voodoos finished the regular season with a record of 35-14-1-2, earning them second place in the league standings. The Lumberjacks, on the other hand, finished in third place with a record of 31-17-2-2.
Both teams have strong rosters and are evenly matched, making for an exciting and intense playoff series. The Voodoos are led by captain Harrison Israels, who finished the regular season with 72 points in 52 games. Israels is a key player for the Voodoos and will be relied upon to lead the team to victory.
The Lumberjacks, on the other hand, have a strong offensive presence with players like Max Griffioen and Bradley Golant leading the way. Griffioen finished the regular season with 75 points in 52 games, while Golant had 68 points in 52 games. The Voodoos will have to keep a close eye on these two players if they want to shut down the Lumberjacks’ offense.
In addition to their strong offensive players, the Lumberjacks also have a solid goaltender in Liam Oxner. Oxner finished the regular season with a 2.44 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. He will be a tough challenge for the Voodoos’ offense to overcome.
However, the Voodoos have their own strong goaltender in Joe Vrbetic. Vrbetic finished the regular season with a 2.31 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. He will be a key factor in the Voodoos’ success in the playoffs.
The Voodoos and the Lumberjacks have faced each other four times in the regular season, with the Voodoos winning three out of the four games. However, the playoffs are a whole different ball game and anything can happen.
The Voodoos will have to rely on their strong offense, led by Israels, and their solid goaltending from Vrbetic to defeat the Lumberjacks once again. The Lumberjacks, on the other hand, will look to their strong offensive players and goaltender Oxner to lead them to victory.
It’s sure to be an intense and hard-fought series between these two rivals. Can the Voodoos chop down the Lumberjacks once again, or will the Lumberjacks come out on top this time? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure, this will be a series to remember.
