New compact mixed neighbourhood proposed for base of Knox Mountain

A new compact mixed neighbourhood is being proposed for the base of Knox Mountain in Kelowna.

The proposed development, called “Knox Village,” would be located on a 5.5-acre site at the base of the popular hiking destination. It would consist of a mix of residential and commercial buildings, including townhouses, apartments, and retail spaces.

According to the developer, the goal of Knox Village is to create a vibrant and walkable community that will enhance the surrounding area and provide much-needed housing options.

The project is being spearheaded by the Vancouver-based developer, Mission Group, who has submitted a rezoning application to the City of Kelowna. The application is currently under review by city staff and will eventually be presented to city council for approval.

If approved, Knox Village would be the first development of its kind in the area, offering a mix of housing options in a compact and sustainable design. The developer has also committed to incorporating green spaces and pedestrian-friendly pathways throughout the neighbourhood.

The proposed development has received mixed reactions from the community. Some residents have expressed concerns about increased traffic and the impact on the natural environment, while others see it as a positive addition to the area.

City council will ultimately have the final say on whether Knox Village will move forward. A public hearing will be held before any decision is made, giving residents the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns.

If approved, construction on Knox Village could begin as early as next year, with the first phase of the project expected to be completed by 2023.

Overall, the proposed development of Knox Village has the potential to transform the base of Knox Mountain into a thriving and diverse neighbourhood, providing new housing options and amenities for the community.
