Saskatoon Duo Charged in Two Investigations After Ballistics Lab Matches Weapon to Cartridges

Two individuals from Saskatoon have been charged in connection to two separate investigations after a ballistics lab was able to match a weapon to cartridges found at the scene of a crime.

According to police, the first investigation began in December 2020 when a vehicle was shot at in the 100 block of Avenue O South. The vehicle was occupied at the time, but fortunately no one was injured. After examining the scene, investigators found several spent cartridges and a bullet fragment.

The second investigation began in January 2021 when a residence in the 100 block of Avenue P South was shot at. Again, no one was injured, but several spent cartridges were found at the scene.

Both investigations were assigned to the Saskatoon Police Service’s Guns and Gangs Unit, who then sent the evidence to the RCMP National Forensic Laboratory Services in Ottawa for analysis.

After thorough examination, the lab was able to match the cartridges found at both scenes to a specific firearm. This crucial piece of evidence led to the arrest of two suspects.

A 25-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Saskatoon, have been charged with multiple firearm-related offences in connection to the two investigations. They are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The Saskatoon Police Service commends the hard work and dedication of the Guns and Gangs Unit and the RCMP National Forensic Laboratory Services in solving these two cases. Their collaboration and expertise have resulted in the successful identification and arrest of the suspects.

The police also want to remind the public that gun violence will not be tolerated in Saskatoon and that they will continue to work tirelessly to keep the community safe.

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
