A tragic incident occurred in Vaughan on Monday evening, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old boy. The driver responsible for the collision has been charged by authorities.
According to York Regional Police, the incident took place at the intersection of Dufferin Street and Major Mackenzie Drive around 6:30 p.m. The teenager was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle.
Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, but unfortunately, the boy succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.
After further investigation, the driver, identified as 29-year-old John Smith, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. He was released on a promise to appear in court and is scheduled to appear on May 5.
