Calgary air cadet ‘excited and honoured’ to earn spot in U.S. training program

Calgary Air Cadet Selected for Prestigious U.S. Training Program

A young cadet from Calgary has been chosen to participate in a highly coveted training program in the United States. The program, known as the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE), is a prestigious opportunity for cadets to gain valuable skills and knowledge in the field of aviation.

Cadet Sergeant Emily Smith, 17, was selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates to represent Canada in the IACE program. She will join a group of cadets from around the world for a two-week training program at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.

Smith, who has been a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets for four years, expressed her excitement and gratitude for being chosen for this opportunity. “I am honored to have been selected for the IACE program and I am looking forward to learning from cadets from different countries and experiencing a new culture,” she said.

The IACE program, which has been running since 1947, aims to promote international understanding and goodwill among young people with an interest in aviation. It also provides cadets with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain a deeper understanding of different cultures, and foster lifelong friendships.

During the two-week program, Smith and her fellow cadets will participate in various activities, including flight simulations, survival training, and visits to aviation museums. They will also have the chance to interact with members of the U.S. Air Force and learn about their training and operations.

This is not the first time a cadet from Calgary has been selected for the IACE program. In fact, Smith’s selection marks the 14th consecutive year that a cadet from the city has been chosen to participate.

The Royal Canadian Air Cadets is a national youth program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who have an interest in aviation, leadership, and community service. It is sponsored by the Canadian Armed Forces and aims to develop in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership, while promoting physical fitness and an interest in aviation.

Smith’s participation in the IACE program is a testament to the dedication and hard work she has put into her training as an air cadet. It is also a reflection of the high caliber of cadets that the Royal Canadian Air Cadets program produces.

We wish Cadet Sergeant Emily Smith all the best as she embarks on this exciting and enriching experience. Her selection for the IACE program is a proud moment for the city of Calgary and the Royal Canadian Air Cadets program.
