A tragic incident occurred overnight in Winnipeg, as two separate fires broke out, resulting in the death of a beloved pet cat. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to both incidents and thankfully, no human injuries were reported.
The first fire was reported at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday, at a single-family home on the 100 block of Bannerman Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames. The blaze was quickly brought under control, but unfortunately, the family’s cat did not survive.
The second fire occurred just a few hours later, at approximately 2:30 am on Wednesday, at a multi-family home on the 500 block of Sherbrook Street. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one suite, and all residents were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported in this incident.
The cause of both fires is still under investigation, and the estimated damage is yet to be determined. The WFPS is reminding the public to always have working smoke alarms in their homes and to have a fire escape plan in place.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the devastating consequences that can result from a fire. Our thoughts go out to the family who lost their beloved pet in the first fire, and we are grateful that no one was injured in either incident.
We will continue to provide updates on the investigation as more information becomes available. In the meantime, we urge everyone to take the necessary precautions to prevent fires and to always be prepared in case of an emergency.
