Toronto Police have charged a suspect in connection with an alleged homophobic assault that occurred in the city’s downtown core.
According to authorities, the incident took place on Saturday, February 6th, near the intersection of Church and Wellesley streets. The victim, a 29-year-old man, reported that he was walking in the area when he was approached by a group of individuals who began hurling homophobic slurs at him.
The victim stated that he was then physically assaulted by one of the individuals, resulting in minor injuries. He was able to flee the scene and contact the police.
After conducting an investigation, Toronto Police have charged 22-year-old John Smith with assault and uttering threats. Smith is scheduled to appear in court on March 15th.
